Cameron Road Shows Signs of Life in a Tough 0-1 Loss
In what was certainly their best 90 minutes of the season, an 11-man Cameron Road held out until the 80th minute when Black Star Austin converted a free kick to give them the win.
With no subs to Black Star’s 6, the Cameron Road squad (Chap, Willis, Stripy, Peterson, Leif, Way, Luke, BT, Bob, Ciro and Jay) knew they would have to dig in and play the full 90 minutes.
Cameron Road’s opportunistic offense was best in the first half, when several chances fell their way. The best fell to Chris Peterson in the 5th minute as his side footed shot from inside the box went just wide to the right. BT also had a blast from distance, and Luke managed to put a free kick on goal.
Cameron Road’s passing was showing signs of improvement as there were several plays where the build up involved multiple passes as they managed to hold onto the ball, probing the defense.
Scoreless at halftime, Cameron Road came out in the 2nd half with a more defensive mindset, hoping to scrape out a draw and earn their first point of the season. Dropping into a more 4-5-1 formation, CRU hoped to close down Black Star and feast on whatever counter attack came their way. Stripy came closest with a short range flick late in the half.
Black Star were fighting hard to get the goal and had multiple shots, but Jay and the defense were up to the task. Unfortunately, they converted a late free kick from the right side to eek out a 1-0 victory.
After the game, the subless Cameron Road team felt harshly done by the loss, but were very positive about the effort and the improved play.
Man-of-the-Match: The Cold Front. For the first time in what seems like forever, there was a cool breeze blowing during the 2nd half of the game.
Man-of-the-Post-Match: BT finally paid back that jackass prankster Chapoton with a full jug dousing of ice cold water straight to the groin – it made for a very chilly ride home.
