Strikers struck first. CRU struck last. Unfortunately Strikers also struck a bunch of times in between.
For the second week in a row, Cameron Road gave up 4 goals in the second half and fell to the Strikers to continue their typical slow start to the fall season losing 6-1.
On the positive side, Big John showed up and earned himself a t-shirt. It was (as always) great to see the big fella, especially at 8:00am in the morning when Cameron Road was hurting for subs…. again.
The Strikers controlled the ball for the majority of the game as Cameron Road struggled to work the ball around and two early defensive mistakes ended up in the back of the CRU net. A BT cross/shot off the cross bar was about all the action early on.
Near the end of the half, Leif burst through and was fouled on the right hand side the box for a stone cold penalty. After some confusion over who would step up to take the PK, Chappy and Peterson conferred on the spot and it was Chappy who ended up with the opportunity. Sadly, Leif’s hard work was for naught as the horrible miss sailed over the bar.
Going into halftime down 2 goals there was still hope of pulling something out of the game, but momentum was clearly with the Strikers.
Another thing that was clearly with the Strikers in the second half was their ability to score goals. Four more of’em.
Although CRU did create some opportunities including an Andy Michaelis header that went wide right, they weren’t enough to get back into the game as the Strikers continued to dominate possession with their short passing game, runs through the defense, and lethal finishing.
Chappy’s goal at the end of the game was of little consolation as Cameron Road must figure out how to keep the ball in play, tighten up the back and knock in some goals. Quickly.
Man of the Match – Although the Strikers scored 6 goals, Jay probably saved 6 more shots as he was peppered all day long. Tough day at the office, but it could have been worse if not for our fearless keeper.
Man of the Post Match – Thanks to Ciro for bringing the delicious Dos XX’s in the fancy green cans. Their magical properties served many purposes including: instant refreshment, the fuel for witty commentary with matches on either side, and the perfect tonic to try and forget an absolutely horrible attempt at a penalty kick. Cheers Ciro.
