CRU 3 – The Ranch 2

It was hot, we were a bit rusty, the Ranch lacked the power of the mohawk, but we still managed to get a victory and start off the new season on the right foot. We scored within the first 10 minutes of the game, unfortunately it was against our own team as an unlucky series of events lead to an own goal. Not to worry though, shortly after, with razor’s edge sharpness, Luke broke through the middle of the Ranch D and slotted home the first offensive goal of the season. With the game tied at 1-1, Cassio displayed the moves that make him famous at Clark Field by zig-zagging between 3 defenders inside the box to cooly slot home our second goal. Lionel Messi would have been proud.

When the Ranch opened up the second half with a quick goal, nobody gave up and shortly thereafter Cassio broke free in the middle of the park to net his second goal of the day and put us up for good. Although the Ranch were empty on the subs bench, they continued to press forward and really gave us fits, but the brilliant turnout (19 out of 20 players showed up!) proved too much to handle as wave after wave of fresh legs beat them into submission.

With total team grit and determination, we hung on to the 3-2 scoreline to earn our first win of the new season. Good job! We had a bit of the injury bug strike as Dermot and Marcus went down in the second half, but hopefully they will be fit for next week’s clash.

Man of the Match – Cassio and his two goal attack wins the first coveted MOTM award and also puts him at the top of the goal scoring charts for the season.
