Notes from the Boardroom
So after all these years of declining Andrew’s invitations to attend the AMSA Board of Captains Meetings, I finally had to go last night as a representative of CRU. Have to say, actually, it was pretty interesting. I’d say 75 of the 110+ Captains were in attendance and it gave me a chance to see the league in action. I found out some interesting things (the league started in 1973!) and got to meet the people in charge. My general consensus was that they were all very passionate about soccer and want to keep the bureaucracy to a minimum.
They talked about a lot of issues, most of them regarding registration and some minor rule changes regarding players registered to multiple teams. They also mentioned their program for trying to get better referees into the league, but brought up the point that we have a horrible reputation as a league for abusing them – so keep that in mind.
Probably the most exciting things discussed were the two tournaments that will be held starting this Fall, the Austin Fall Cup and the AMSA Cup. The Austin Fall Cup is a paid weekend tournament with 2 games on Saturday and 1 game on Sunday. It will be held the weekend of November 21-23 and we are allowed 3 guest players. The second tournament also starts in November, the AMSA State Cup. This is a free knock out tournament that we played in last year. (We got kicked out by Verity if I’m not mistaken) So look for some extra soccer in your futures this fall!
That about covers it.
