Honey Badgers Brilliant Second Half Display Would Have Turned the Tide Against Deportivo…….

….. if they had not already scored 5 first half goals.

IMG_9383Cameron Road battled the blazing heat, tireless teenagers, starting and finishing with 10 men, no subs, and a single tent yesterday in the loss to Deportivo. Sure, sure, the first half was kind of a blur, but just think what would have happened if BT’s free kick, Luke’s scorcher, Billy’s left footed blast, Chappy’s header, Steve’s two solo efforts, and Chappy’s shot at the whistle would have all gone in! I mean, the math is undeniable.

The good news is that it’s all downhill from here. That 2:00, 103 degree day was most likely the zenith of Texas heat for 2017, and everybody came out mostly unscathed (except for BT’s exploding calf).

But the result was secondary, because for one long-time Honey Badger, it would prove to be his swan song. Luke exited the field for the last time after 90 minutes. Looks like his 12 year run with the Honey Badgers is coming to a close as his family will be moving to the great state of Utah to raise their two young badger cubs. Luke has been a model servant to Cameron Road over the past decade. He’s a former MVP, the team’s tournament bracketologist, the most positive Honey Badger to ever put on the uniform, and most likely the nicest human any of us will ever meet. Dude could smash a double fisted header and thrown in a ball too. Thanks for all the memories Luke, you know where to find us if you ever return to the ATX (sweating, drinking and pouring icy water on Ciro in the confines of Badgertown)

Thanks for the memories Luke!!!
