Honey Badgers Stay Alive in Title Race with 4-2 Win Over Dragons

Cameron Road United stayed alive in the race for the title with a resounding 4-2 win over the pesky Dragons yesterday. Without Daenerys Targaryen to guide them, the Dragons came in a wounded beast, failing to score in their previous four matches. The Honey Badgers weren’t exactly coming into the game on a high either after last week’s defeat to Cosmos.

The Honey Badgers set up with a double tent infirmary on the sidelines housing Jefe and Ryan who were hooked up to canned IV drips to promote their healing process. That magnificent home base setup along with the French referee were good omens for a prosperous game.

Cameron Road started off nicely with good passing and had the Dragons on the ropes for the opening 15 minutes. They were having good luck cutting through the middle of the Dragons defensive line. Zoran slid in a through ball for Chappy to run on to, but his first touch was about as silky as a sheet of 60 grit sandpaper.

With another fine move through the center of the pitch, Steve found Ciro at the top of the box. Ciro slid in past the defense and placed a shot past the keeper to the far post for a 1-0 lead.

That woke up the Dragon so to speak, and they started to get back into the game and apply more pressure. As the corner kicks started to build up, Cameron Road were undone by a well-struck volley from their diminutive forward that just dipped under the crossbar. At 1-1, it was game on.

With a fresh burst of energy from some orange slices, the Honey Badgers burrowed deep within their den to wait out halftime. Jefe barked out nonsensical tactical instructions as Ryan sipped on a cold beverage, nodding in approval.

The Honey Badgers burst out of the gates in the second half, hoping to take control of the game. Billy controlled the ball on the right and found Chappy down the right side. Chappy drove down the touchline and whipped in a Beckhamesque cross that found Steve at the back post. Steve smashed in a header, but was incorrectly called for offside by the silent, teenage linesman. Good play. Bad call.

No matter, Cameron Road was not done. In a Rugby-like scrum inside the box, Ciro go the ball to BT who circled to his left and beat the keeper with a close-range shot. 2-1 CRU.

After that goal, 11 Honey Badgers fell asleep and somehow the Dragons worked the kickoff into a goal in the next 30 seconds to tie the score back up at 2 each.

Feeling things slipping away, the Honey Badgers turned it up to 11 and decided to look for the missing scale in the belly of the beast.

The breakthrough came as the BT and Ciro duo again connected, but this time in reverse with BT playing the provider and Ciro scoring his second of the day to put CRU back up for good.

To put the final nail in the coffin, Steve converted a p/k for goal number 4 after Adam cleverly kicked a ball off a Dragon’s defender’s hands.

With a 2 goal lead, Cameron Road felt in control of the game and wanted to see out the remaining 10 minutes. They formed a defensive shell around Jay, but weren’t totally opposed to the counter attack as Jake went on a solitary 50 yard scamper down the left side of the pitch.

And after knocking heads with some weary, frustrated Dragons, the Honey Badgers finished up with a nice 4-2 win to get back in the groove with 2 games left to play.

Man-of-the-Match: Ciro had a great game in central midfield and added two goals and an assist.
