Cameron Road Leapfrogs Shiner and Black Star Austin in One Day to Move Out of the Relegation Zone
On a chilly Sunday morning, on the frozen tundra of NEMP, under the black cloud of a possible rainout, 10 man Cameron Road vaulted two spots in the D2 table with a convincing win verses old rivals Shiner FC.
For those of you who weren’t there today, I think this play describes how dominant we were. Let me see if I can remember it correctly… As Irish Abe got off a shot inside the box, Jay made a fingertip save at full stretch to deny him the goal. After gathering the ball Jay quickly, and with spider-like dexterity, rolled the ball out to Billy on the right hand side. Billy juked one attacker, threw a ‘Scottish Secptor’ (a flying no-look elbow), and passed the ball across the middle to Cuyler in the center of defense. Cuyler then daftly played the ball over to Jonathan, who was helping us out while the rest of the Cameron Road squad got massages and sipped on fruity drinks at a girly day spa. John took a few touches and played the ball up the line to Marcus, who was off to the races down the left hand side. As he neared the byline, Marcus realized that he had outrun the entire team, and Shiner, so he stopped and made himself a ham sandwich. When he was done, and everyone else had a chance to catch up, he whipped over a cross with his favored left foot all the way across the pitch to Dermot. After crushing one defender, running over a second and maiming a third (no fouls according to the ref), Dermot picked out Chris Peterson at the top of the box. With a trademark no look back heal, Chirs touched the ball to BT, who was sitting back directing traffic from 30 yards out. BT did a spinorama to get around one defender and busted out a cartwheel to folly the next one trying to shut him down. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Willis and Chappy making a mad dash to the 6 yard box. BT cleverly lofted a perfectly weighted cross exactly in the middle of the two onrushing attackers. The ball came down at the precise moment that Chappy and Willis arrived and actually struck Chappy in the head while Willis made contact with his right foot, sending the ball into the back of the Shiner net with such velocity, that it tore a hole right through it and was never found.
With this victory, and Black Star Austin’s draw, Cameron Road leapfrogged both teams to finally move out of the relegation zone for the first time in forever. Nice to see Shiner, Black Star and Gary Job Corps in the rear view mirror. Lets keep it that way.
Cheers.
