With the spring season behind them, the Honey Badgers embarked on their annual summer tour of duty. First up on the docket was long-time rival Struggle F.C. Back in the day, these two teams tore up a patch or two of grass battling it out with a friendly rivalry, so it was nice to see these old foes trade blows once again. Fortunately for Cameron Road, the Honey Badgers were the only ones throwing haymakers as they landed a knockout blow early en route to a 3-0 dominating victory.

Good turnout for the first game of the summer, 5 subs plus a wandering Punter were all crammed into the twin tents of power.

The game started of well for the Honey Badgers as the controlled the play, got forward, and protected the goal at the back. They quickly asserted their dominance and looked to lock this one up early.

The skies also opened up, and the majority of the first half was played in a mild rainstorm, dropping the temps by 20 degrees and putting a smile on most everyone’s face. Nothing like a rain game.

Since he would be receiving his Golden Boot award after the game, it was poetic justice that Ryan opened up the scoring with a beautiful right footed strike from outside the box. The ball came to him after a corner kick was cleared, and he wasted no time in striking it true with his new Mizuno. 1-0 CRU.

You just knew that if this were to be a victory at sea, the Kraken would be involved. And again, after a corner kick, Cuyler wound up with all his might and smashed in goal #2 from 6 yards out. Not the typical Kraken goal, but just as deadly. 2-0 CRU.

As the rain continued to pour at halftime, the Honey Badgers were kept dry by the double tents, and strategized on how to keep up the pressure.

A second half goal by Ryan sealed the deal, but it could have been even more. Gigi hit the crossbar twice, Andy had a rocket tipped away by the keeper, Adam stuck out a leg (and missed) trying to capture a cross, Ciro and Billy surged forward on several occasions, and Way Shong almost put the icing on the cake with a last minute attempt at a cricket goal.

With so much offensive firepower and good passing, the defense was just as solid as Jay didn’t really have to make a single difficult save.

With the game out of the way, the team settled in for the long haul of the post game… and they were just as good.

Dragons…. we are coming for you.

Man-of-the-Match: Hard to top Ryan’s two goal performance and constant hustle. Some may say it was his new shoes. Some may say it was natural talent. Don’t be fooled, it was the haircut.
