Massive Attack sinks Cameron Road with a second half… well, Massive Attack.

Different week, same story for Cameron Road United as they continue to fight the good fight at Onion Creek, but wound up just short again.

A really solid first half performance saw the CRU defense hold Massive Attack at bay, while at the other end Cameron Road’s attackers had a few cracks at goal. Luke fired off a half volley from the hip, McKenna put one into the keeper’s gut, Chap latched onto a BT pass to come up just wide (although offside), Scott made a mad-dash box-to-box run, and even Dermot got off a left-footed shot inside the box.

The boys in yellow and blue knew they faced a stiff second half – both from league leaders Massive Attack, and from the wind at their faces. Both proved to be insurmountable foes as they eventually fell to a 2-0 score. Chances were harder to come by in the second half with Massive Attack using the wind (and their goal keepers skyrocket mile-long punts) to put pressure on Cameron Road. Nevertheless, BT was a force in the middle of the park, surging forward and leaping into the goal for headers.

Cameron Road’s best chance at getting back into the game came off a corner kick, but somehow the high ball bounced around and managed to miss everyone.

So ends the story of yet another close loss. Last week CRU had a great second half, this week it was the first. Let’s see if this coming week is the time when they figure it out for an entire game.

Man-of-the-Match: When you’re on a two game losing streak, even though the games have been tight, providing post-game beer to ease the pain will earn you the Man-of-the-Match award. This week that saint was Ciro. And for that, we say “thank you.”
