CRU 1 – Austin Athletic Club 4
On a mostly forgettable hot and humid Sunday afternoon, Cameron Road succumbed to the curse of the dreaded ARM jerseys and fell to Austin Athletic Club by three goals.
The cliff notes version of the game is that Cameron Road gave the ball away too many times, gifted the visitors several goals, and just couldn’t find the composure in the final third of the pitch to cause much stress in the AAC defense. You knew it wouldn’t be Cameron Road’s day when they had to switch from their beautiful new yellow tops to the white ARM alternate jerseys – which should bear total responsibility for the defeat.
There were fleeting bright moments for CRU: the return of the Kraken to the back line, Willis’ super strike from a great ball from Leif, a few shots on target by Ciro, and a tripple threat of tents on the sidelines.
Hopefully Cameron Road will get back on the winning track next week and get a brake from the sun with an 8am game versus Celtic Cowboys Lite (the older, slower, less-nasty version).
Man-of-the-Match: Continuing his hot streak, Ryan Willis nabs the award this week with our only goal and a full day of hustle. That’s 4 goals in his last 3 games for the ageless forward with the Martin Sheen hairline.
