Magik Apple Update

As the Onion Creek outdoor fields lay dormant for the winter, there is a plethora of soccer being played indoors by a rag-tag group of Cameron Roaders, looking for an edge come February.

Game 6 – Magik Apple 3 – Diablos 6
We held up for a good portion of the first half anchored in back by Ciro and our special guest Scott.  Despite playing good defense, our difficulty tracking back allowed the familiar man disadvantage attacks, putting us down 2-0.  BT scores on a smooth Ciro assist to make it 2-1.  Our next goal comes from Way picking up a loose ball in the box and finishing calmly.  At 4-2 we were still looking OK.  An immediate response from the diablos puts them ahead again by 3.  Despite Jay ripping a hard volley off a Diablo foot and making several other key saves, we let in a few more.  Before it was all over, though, Andy scores the effort goal of the season, hounding their roving goalie until he had both a great finish and the keeper’s weekly allowance.  Final score: 6-3. The Apple falls again.

Game 5 – Magik Apple 5 – Valedores 7
A second BT hat trick isn’t enough as a fully stocked Magik Apple can’t come away with a victory.

Game 4 – Magik Apple 7 – Sara’s Scrubs 4
Clean shaven Captain BT scores a hat trick as the Magik Apple get off the schnide and exact revenge on Sara’s Scrubs for our game 1 loss. Although the Scrubs went up one goal early, the Apple was up 4 or 5 goals by half time and continued to heap on the misery by clogging up the midfield, unleashing fury on their goal, and using our outdoor brute strength to push around the gym rats who were expecting to play by ladie’s badmittern rules.

Game 2 – Magik Apple 6 – Valedores 8
Who knew you could play a soccer game at 10:30pm on a Tuesday? Down two men from our 11 man roster, the game started out a lot like the first one ended, with us taking it on the chin with a few early goals. But instead of cramping up and falling apart, we managed to turn up the heat and keep things interesting.

Highlights included Billy scoring for both teams in the span of 30 seconds, Ciro with a coast-to-coast goal late in the game, Chappy proving that you can score headers indoor, and an awesome second half comeback that fell just short. The confidence is building.

Game 1 – Magik Apple 2 – Indoor All Star Scrub Team 8
Our first introduction to indoor started out positively as we controlled the ball and passed it around. However, things suddenly turned ugly as we got hammered by the indoor all star gym rats. It was a rough introduction to indoor soccer as we struggled on the field and struggled on the sidelines trying not to have our lungs explode. Luke gets the distinct honor of being the first official Magic Apple player to score a goal.
