Achtung Baby: Cameron Road Ends Season With 3-1 Loss
On the final day of the season, Cameron Road fell to Achtung 3-1 on the pitch, but destroyed them off of it. With 10 coolers of beer under the big blue tent, CRU was prepared for a post-match celebration, regardless of the outcome.
It was a strange game, and Cameron Road actually came out of the gates like racehorses, with a sublime opening scoring chance in the games first 5 minutes. At right back, Billy worked the ball to Chappy on the flank who gave it up to Willis. Ryan then sent a thru ball down the right hand side for Chappy to chance down in enemy territory. His resulting cross found Adam inside the box, but his first time shot went wide.
After the opening chance, it was Achtung to first break the deadlock with the first of many crazy plays. As CRU cleared the ball from the back, an Achtung player decided to let loose a 40 yard bomb thatfound its way into the back of the net. And if that wasn’t enough, they were awarded a penalty as their forward fell down from the weakest of pushes. At 2-0 down, it was starting to look like a typical CRU end of season meltdown, but Chris Peterson pulled back a lifeline.
Petersun, who was enjoying a good spell on the wing, fired in a great shot from outside the left of the box to pull Cameron Road back within a goal.
There were other scoring chances as well in the half. Z fired over as he raced on a thru-ball, Andy’s cross glanced off Chappy’s dome from inside the box, and Chappy also nicked the crossbar with a volley from a corner kick.
But at the half, it was still 2-1 to the visitors.
The second half proved more of the same as CRU tried to get back a goal. Achtung managed to nick in another close range strike and Cameron Road just couldn’t get a grasp on the game to get back into it.
And so ended the season finale. A 3-1 loss. But the somber mood was immediately lifted when the war chest of beer was unleashed upon the sidelines.
Man of the Match: with a lovely goal and a nice game on the wing, CP gave Cameron Road a small lift before the half.
