WIN: 4-0 vs Travis FC – Badgers Inch One Step Closer to Title
In a rematch of the season’s opening day loss, Cameron Road wanted revenge on Travis FC on a boiling hot Sunday afternoon. Way too hot for April, but so goes Texas. The Honey Badgers had a lone sub on the sidelines and Travis FC showed up with none.
The Badgers are on a roll with the title in sight, so it was only a matter of time before they ground down Travis FC and put the game to bed with two goals in each half.
Travis FC did come out pretty hot with some opening attacks, but the defense was up to the task. Guillermo was on fire in central midfield, getting a lot of the ball and harnessing his inner-Cuban with some fiery exchanges with the referee and opposing players. Jeff Z was also asserting his muscle as their pesky #6 went tumbling from Jeff’s return love tap after he was fouled deep inside his own box. The Badgers were turning up the heat, which was on, on the street, the heat was on.
After a few long-range pops at goal, Cameron Road got on the board with a tandem of non-dental goals from the absolutely on fire Gianluca. First up, Guillermo barked orders for Chappy to chase down a ball that was headed out of bounds. With 6 gallons of tequila still coursing through his veins from a week in Mexico, Chappy mustered up a burst to grab the ball off the touchline and play in Derek down the right side. Derek crossed the ball over to his strike partner who promptly finished it in the far corner for goal #1.
After that, Guillermo pushed deep into enemy territory and cut off a goal kick to win the ball back. Seeing Gianluca up ahead pointing, he threaded in an absolutely inch-perfect through ball to the Gigi, who calmly let the ball roll across him and he drove it into the far corner this time for goal #2. This beauty will be a contender for goal of the season.
Adam was watching monkeys in Costa Rica, but somehow there were oranges on the sidelines to retain halftime continuity.
As the second half wore on, Travis FC were getting gassed, not offering much in attack, and were ripe to be put out of their misery. Danny pushed forward more, Ciro did a stint on the left wing, Chappy helped out behind him in defense, Chris G ran down every lose ball and even made a sprint into enemy territory.
New/Old/Original Brian made his mark and went into the record books as the CRU player with the longest gap in between assists as he fed Derek for goal #3. His last assist was probably somewhere in the region of 14 years ago, and the man is ON THE BOARD! Awesome.
Bit of a goal feeding frenzy to round out the game as Ciro slipped in Peterson who had both a defender and the keeper charging out at him. Chris stunned them both with his perfect hairline and promptly ditched the ball into the back of the open net for the Honey Badgers glorious fourth goal of the game.
Game. Set. Match. Badgers win the rematch and keep their title charge alive.
Man-of-the-Match: With a fiery attitude, aggressive play, a sweet-sweet assist, and a cooler (not cardboard box) full of beer, Guillermo was the man yesterday!
Post-Match-Report: The Crown & Anchor won as the Punters and Chopped Liverpool battled it out to a 2-2 draw on Field 4 while Beerca took the day on Field 5 in spite of their pastel purple kits. It will be good to be back in the mix of some familiar faces/teams next fall. Jefe iced Chappy with Ciro’s nasty cooler water as he had no escape route and went over in his chair. But then Chappy poured 3 gallons of water down the back of Ciro’s shorts to pay for his un-Ciro-like back pass.
