On a positive note, Danimal returned with a brand new Hops and Grain summer brew which was fantastic. He also scored the only goal of the game for the Honey Badgers as his visceral plunges forward into the depths of Real Austin’s box lead the charge for the second half comeback.

The Honey Badgers were kind of like France on the day. Plenty of chances, but the ball would just not sit into the back of the net. Derek smashed a p/k off the crossbar and was upended late in the game for another one that wasn’t called. BT rocketed a near post header that was saved off the line. Adam went mono y mono with the keeper in the first half but was turned away. Ciro most likely shot it right at the keeper’s hands. McKenna got behind the defense a few times. It was a frustrating day at the office, but the feeling was that the team played pretty well.

In typical Cameron Road fashion, the game ended with Chappy channeling his inner-Danimal and going on a wild run. His attempt to get into scoring position included two offensive slide tackles (but no fouls!). The two broken Real Austin bodies in his wake sparked a mini-melee as their square-jawed leader was not very pleased with the bludgeoning of their defenders. His though was that summer soccer should be “fun” and “playful” and perhaps both teams might have a slumber party the night of the game and roast marshmallows over an open flame while playing Pokemon Go.

Luckily for Chappy, Real Austin’s protests and Danimal’s verbose retorts helped everyone forget the awful scuffed shot at the end of all that hard work.

Maybe next week all the stars will align for an elusive summer victory. Until then, Badger Up.
