Tech Bubble Bursts All Over Cirrus Logic as Honey Badgers Deliver a Golden Shower of Goals En Route to a 5-3 Victory

Another deathly hot noon game for Cameron Road this week and another red hot performance as they defeated Cirrus Logic 5-3 on the molten plains of Onion Creek.
A typical mid-summer 1 sub team showed up today, a far cry from the 7 subs on opening day. But the 12 Honey Badgers were focused on continuing their good form with a victory.
Unfortunately, Cirrus Logic got on the board very early, like in the first 2 minutes early, with an unmarked header that stunned the Honey Badgers into action.
Without panicking, the Honey Badgers regrouped and got back into the game with a timely finish from Ciro. As Steve worked the ball down the right side, his cross was cut off by the keeper, who spilled the ball back into play and into the path of Ciro. Ciro wound up his size 7 Mizuno Supersonic Wave and put the ball into the back of the net from a very tight angle. Was the ball out of bounds before the keeper put it back into play? Possibly. Was Cirrus Logic upset at the call? Most likely. Did the goal count? Definitely.
1-1 and we had ourselves a ball game. As the much younger Cirrus Logic started passing the ball around, their team’s royal pain in the ass #28 took aim at Chris Peterson and proceeded to wind him (and our entire team) up with a triple dose of sass-talk. It’s been a long time since the phrase “meet me in the parking lot by my black Lincoln Continental” was uttered at Onion Creek, but CRU wasn’t taking the bait. Next up was Cuyler to get into the mix with the fiery forward, and this time the referee took control and sent them both to time out for a 5 minute cooling off period before the Kraken pounded him into the ground.
As the game ebbed back and forth, Cirrus Logic again took the lead with a goal from the top of the box. But they didn’t realize that the Honey Badgers love a come from behind victory and would not wilt from their pressure or the unrelenting heat.
With the half winding down, CRU unleashed a double dose of attacking play. Steve controlled the ball on the left side of the box, dribble through a few defenders, and played a ball into Chappy’s feat in the center of goal. Chappy’s initial plan was to tap it to Scott who was poised at his side. When there was some hesitation on both players minds, Chappy decided to take the shot himself and his left-footed toe poke beat the keeper to the short side. 2-2.
Minutes later, Scott stormed through the middle of the park and Steve sent in his 3rd assist of the half in front of the fleet footed midfielder. Scott’s powerful shot took a wicked deflection off a defender and left the keeper grasping at straws as the Honey Badgers regained the lead 3-2 at the half.
Special thanks to Team Crosley for providing the much needed orange slices at halftime.

As the second half kicked off, the game seemed to settle down a little bit. The Cameron Road defense was standing firm, with Dave, Crosley and Cuyler holding off attacks and sending balls away from danger. Jay made one great save in the first half, but watched as balls went sailing over the goal for most of the second.
Unfortunately, the referee had to intervene once again as Cuyler and the fiery #28 got into it on the sideline. What might have simply been the big man shielding the ball out of bounds with his mighty frame turned into a double ejection as #28’s big mouth wouldn’t let go of the perceived defense injustice. Tough break for Cuyler, but he probably saved one of his teammates from getting a red card at that guy’s expense.
At 3-2 and no subs available, the Honey Badgers decided to push forward in attack rather than sit back, and they were rewarded for their efforts to put the game to bed.
From his central position, Ryan played a ball into Scott who found Chappy cutting through the middle of the defense. Scott played the perfectly weighted pass to Chappy as the ball seemed to disappear between his twin size 13 shoes. Harnessing the power of the sacred 7/7 date, the Cameron Road #7 discovered the ball once again at his feet and sent a low shot right between the keeper’s legs from 18 yards. One goal for each foot from the Mizuno-wearing Captain.
Continuing to attack, this time Chappy turned provider as he got the ball on the right and paid an homage to Billy with a Clark Field scoop of a pass to the back post where Ryan and McKenna were lurking. With 3 assists to his name already on the day, Steve wanted a goal so he called Ryan off the cross. Steve did what he does best and put the Honey Badgers up 5-2.
Cirrus Logic did pull back a consolation goal in the final 15 minutes, but they were not going to get a fourth as Cameron Road packed the back and played all out defense to get the win.
Man-of-the-Match: With 3 goals and 4 assists (including one to each other), the Front Line of McKenna and Chappy did the business up top today.
Man-of-the-Post-Match: While El Jefe was away and Chappy was taking a break, Willis took up the slack and gave Scott a welcome back ice bath. A nice day for Scott as he earned a Cameron Road Hat Trick: Goal, Assist, Ice Bath
Gold-Star-Team-Player-Award: Much thanks to Cuyler, who sacrificed his second half on behalf of his teammates by taking himself and #28 out of the game. He most certainly saved one of us from getting kicket out for retaliating against the hot-tempered forward who was trying to wind up everyone in yellow.
