Cameron Road slaughters the Phoenix. Turns them to ash as they win 5-0.

Ryan, or "The Stash" as he's now known, celebrates another Cameron Road victory under the confines of the tent. Ryan may take credit for his opening goal, but "The Stash" is taking credit for the foul-mouthed tirade at the clumsy Phoenix defenders.

In what is becoming an all too familiar scene, Cameron Road celebrated yet another total destruction of an Over 30 opponent. This week, one of the Slaughter FC teams, Phoenix. There was no rising from the fiery ashes to ascend to a glorious victory for them today as they were dismantled by the Honey Badgers 5-0.

This week’s location and weather were as much an opponent for CRU as Slaughter FC. The NEMP pitch was dusty and crooked and the sun was baking, even at 10am. The game started with CRU fielding 10 men due to some late comers. As it turned out, they probably could have started with 8 and kept the ball away from Phoenix. Chappy had a one-on-one with the keeper to start off the show. Amazingly he was onside but did manage to bungle the shot past the goal. Thankfully it was only one of a ton of chances.

With the defense pushing a high line and keeping Phoenix at bay, Cameron Road enjoyed all of the possession and sent in waves of attacks. About the best attack for Phoenix came as one of their midfielders kicked the ball and Crosley’s gooch at precisely the same time. Sending Steve momentarily down to the ground with a thud.

Soon enough, the rout was on. Willis knifed through the middle of the box and smashed in the first goal. Danny’s ball found Luke who headed in goal number two. Newcomer Danny poked in a close range goal with virtually his first touch for goal number three. And BT danced to his left and fired in a left-footed screamer for first half goal number four.

With Jay leaving for his private jazz flute lesson at halftime, Billy was next up to put on the keeper mits. He did well, stopping a shot with his shin and then passing the gloves to Danimal after the big man scored his second half goal with a powerful run and sliding finish. That one earned him a new Honey Badger hat.

The rest of the second half was basically target practice and a race to see who could be offside the most (Chappy won). Seems like everyone was taking turns missing the goal, with Luke coming closest with a nice midfield bomb sizzling past the post.

So another Over 30 match ended with the Honey Badgers blanking Slaughter FC Phoenix and scoring five. Next week it’s back to the familiar treeline at Onion Creek and a date with Deep Eddy.

Man-of-the-Match: Old Andy Michaelis was a general pest down the left flank for most of the game. His deep runs and work in the box were outstanding, and his link-up play with Peyton in the second half was nice to see.
