2nd Half Comeback Ignites Cameron Road’s 2-1 Win against Los Munos Guapos

Cameron Road rode a 2nd half two goal comeback to beat Los Munos Guapos and earn their first win of the Spring Season. An early start on the morning after SXSW and St. Paddy’s Day  might have caused some player availability concerns, but 13 honey badgers showed up on time to face the hulkish newcomers from D4. With Jay back between the pipes, Cameron Road looked to press the tempo early and create an opening goal.

But, following the script of a usual CRU game, it was the Guapos who struck first blood as their forward cut from right to left and unleashed a nice shot into the back of the net. Fresh from that wakeup call, Cameron Road surged forward trying to tie up the game. Adam was especially feisty on the right side, putting in several deep runs and crosses. Steve McKenna came a whisker away from tying up the game as his close range poke went inches wide of the Guapos post.

As the half wore on, Cameron Road received a special gift as Way Shong showed up… possibly drunk, and definitely sleepy.

Just before the half, the Guapos lost one of their better attackers, and Cameron Road hoped to exploit that weakness in the second half and get back into the game.

And that’s just what happened, as Steve McKenna (true to his word), made up for his earlier near miss with a great dribble through traffic and finish to start off the 2nd half. With the score tied up at 1-1, Cameron Road was back in the game.

Durning the 2nd half the action heated up and both teams lost more players to injury. The biggest blow to CRU was losing Cuyler to a collision inside the box as he went up for an attacking header. He missed the rest of the game, but a few licks from Hondo proved to be ample medicine to flush out the cobwebs.

Cameron Road nearly scored again as Billy whipped in a cross that seemed to miss everyone in front of the box. Chris Peterson also had a fantastic blast from close range in his new 88 jersey, but his effort was denied. Chris had some other good spells filling in at left wing in the 2nd half, sending in deep crosses for his attackers to run onto.

As the half wore down to a nub, Peterson stepped up to take another CRU corner. His deep ball had Chappy’s eyes as big as saucers, but it was Adam at the far post who managed to make his header count and slip it into the near post for game-winning goal. After that, it was 10 men behind the ball as Cameron Road packed the back to prevent Los Munos Guapos from scoring the tying goal. Jeff, Andy, Crosley and Billy took turns smashing the ball out of play, as Ryan and Ciro filled in the gaps in the center of the pitch.

The whistle blew and Cameron Road earned their first victory of the young Spring Season.

Man-of-the-Match: With a game-winning goal and lots of good effort in both halves, Adam earned himself some Sunday morning glory.
