CRU 0 – Strikers 1
Trying to bounce back from last week’s disappointing loss, Cameron Road United again fell to a second half goal and were narrowly beaten by the Strikers 1-0 on Sunday. Another frustrating day at the office saw the tying goal disallowed, and several shots clank off the woodwork.
Sporting a squad of 16 strong, there were plenty of fresh legs to go around this week, which was a bonus, and it looked like an opening goal was in the works early on when birthday boy Dermot lofted a shot over the keeper, only to be denied by the cross bar. Way Shong also hit the post with a shot from close range as United attacked the Strikers in the first half.
A rather even affair ended with no score at half time.
The Strikers got on the board first with an early goal in the second half and just when Cameron Road had plans of tying up the score, the linesman had other ideas. Billy’s goal from close range off a corner kick was ruled offside, even thought the ball was bouncing around back in the box with Strikers players on the line. Strange decision, and our second nullified goal from a corner kick in as many weeks.
The game ended 0-1 with the Strikers on top. Frustration. More frustration.
Man-of-the-Match: There wasn’t a lot of shining moments in yesterday’s match, but Big John stood tall at the back and returned from recent hernia surgery after playing two games on Saturday. That’s the kind of commitment Cameron Road needs to get back on a winning track – not to mention that John’s a long suffering Cleveland Browns fan who probably needs something else to cheer him up.
