Hey 2019, You Suck. Badgers Close Out Year With 0-1 Loss to CC United.

The Soccer Gods have not been kind to Cameron Road this calendar year. A few wins and countless heartache was dished out by the tree line. Character was built up. Life lessons were learned. Patience was tested. But through it all, the Honey Badgers remained a formidable opponent, always ready to fight back when trapped in a cobra pit.

This Sunday’s match with CC United was no exception. With plenty of subs in Badgertown, and plenty of fans to support the troops, Cameron Road were looking to add to their meager win total and end the year on a high.

Jaybone, BT and Peterson were out of town this week at the kickoff for Peterson’s new company, Put it Up –  a hair replacement system for the folliclely challenged. Jaybone set up the display, BT procured snacks, and Chris was (of course) Keynote Speaker.

That meant Danimal slotted back between the pipes.

Continuing to ride their bad luck, the Honey Badgers gave up a goal off a corner within the first 2 minutes to CC United. Not to worry though, the Badgers usually play better with an axe to grind and headed into the wind.

Three days out and the specifics are starting to blur together, but Ryan did have a left-footed shot saved off the line by a defender, and Bret was doing an excellent job of pushing deep from the right back spot. Chances were there.

Oranges!

The second half. Ah the second half. A blitzkrieg of activity in front of the CC United net! Gianluca, shooting, shooting, and shooting again! Only to be denied by inches and one fantastic save. Derek was cutting back and shooting like his life depended on it. Ol’Schwarzy fired off a round in front of his stable of admirers. Adam almost found Derek’s head sitting pretty at the back post. Billy and Adam actually put the ball into the net but it was called back. HOW DID THE HONEY BADGERS NOT SCORE!!!!????? That’s 2019 for you baby. Brutal. Just brutal.

Man-of-the-Match: The entire Cameron Road United squad, for struggling through a brutal year, but sticking together and really playing well the last few games. Things are gonna be a lot different in 2020 for sure… watch out Over 30A.
