Verity’s Vertigo Inducing Uniforms Confuse and Bewilder Honey Badgers in 4-1 Loss

The Honey Badgers hoped to maintain a bit of momentum coming off the draw with the Punters, and next up on the schedule was Verity. Verity is another beer and grill loving thorn in the Honey Badgers side from years past. They are pretty big, and do a good job of moving the ball around.

On the Cameron Road side of the pitch, the tent was again looking a little lean with only one sub available at the start of the game, and Bret only around for the first half. Jeff Z and Schwarzy did turn up to bolster the numbers, but it was still pretty light on the bench.

With a little creative shuffling of the lineup, Cameron Road started with Billy and Ciro in central midfield, Adam and Chappy on the wings, Gigi and Derek up top, and Bret, Danimal, Jefe and New Chris at the back with Jaybone between the pipes. Andy was first up on the sideline.

The first 25 minutes were fantastic for the Honey Badgers as they controlled the game, passed the ball around well, and got into scoring chances several times against Verity. Ciro did most of the running in the middle of the park while Billy calmly spread the ball around. To see him receive the ball and have someone shout “man on!”, and then calmly turn around with the ball at his feet was like watching a lumberjack in a tutu.

For all their efforts and good work though, the Honey Badgers came away with nothing as Verity growed into the game.

They nicked a goal from a header off a corner kick, and then got a second one before half time to take a 2-0 lead.

Oranges were back! But Andy broke the cardinal rule of halftime oranges, feasting on one before the whistle, and was promptly tumped over in his chair onto his back by his Captain…. sore ribs be damned!!!! Standards must be upheld!!!!

Cameron Road came out fighting in the second half, trying to claw their way back into the game. Andy had a great breakaway with Gigi and Derek also both running at the keeper, but the connection for the pass was just off the mark.

Schwary had a pop at goal from distance. Danimal and Chappy tried to connect on some long free kicks. Some other really cool shit probably happened. But Verity struck again with some nifty passing to go up 3-0.

Danimal was staying positive, encouraging the team to keep fighting, and Gigi was a man on a mission to drag Cameron Road back into the game as he ran his skinny socks off.

No wonder he was the one to snag a goal for Cameron Road with his sizzling shot to the near post. 3-1.

Pushing forward, The Honey Badgers tried to grab another, but Verity again snuck in to make it 4-1.

Cameron Road got one last crack at the net with the final play of the game, as Danny got the ball into Chappy inside the box. But the fourth dribble must have gone off the bunion before he was able to let loose a shot and the referee called it.

Did the Honey Badgers create enough chances to win…. probably. Could they have used some more fresh legs on the sidelines….. most likely. Did they stick together as a team and keep their cool…..you betcha. Did Ciro stay dry during the post game….. hell no!

Man-of-the-Match: Displaying the kind of fight and spirit that every Honey Badger should aspire to, Gigi got his goal and hustled his ass off for the team.

Billy and Jefe closing out a 17 hour post-game.
