Cameron Road Struggles to Hang with the Scotty Boykin All Stars as Soccer Gods Grant Him Glorious Victory in His Farewell Testimonal Match

It was a one-of-a-kind event on Sunday as Referee Czar Aubry Daniels set up a final farewell match for longtime AMSA servant Scott Boykin, and decided that Cameron Road United were to be his swan song opponent. Quite an honor for the Honey Badgers.

It was a friendlyish game, and both Andy and Willis decided to jump ship and join the ranks with the Struggle players. They also welcomed Drew the Dragon, Travis the Punter, and Anar the Austin Athletic dribble machine defender. Throw in Scotty’s 16 year old and 9 year old kids, and you’ve got yourself quite an Dream Team that would face Cameron Road.

Although the mood was festive, both teams wanted to put on a good showing. Andy and Willis quickly informed the Struggle players of a failsafe road to victory by telling them to “just let Chappy shoot,” resulting in a bevy of missed opportunities for the Honey Badgers.

And while Chappy was busy missing shots, up strolled Travis to bury a 35 yard strike past Jaybone when he should have been taking care of his newborn son. Thanks Dad. To be fair, Jaybone had been up for 36 hours straight compiling his fantasy football draft at Casa de Peterson. Hopefully he’s happy with his team that includes the 84 Bears defense, Vince Young at quarterback, and Drew Pearson and Lynn Swan at wide receiver.

Scott and his kin were involved in the first half as well. Scotty got off a few shots, his bigger youngin’ defended at the back, and his littler youngin’ attempted to tear the Honey Badger back line to shreds.

At halftime, the gloves came off as Cameron Road decided to unleash Jaybone into open play and substitute Ciro in goal. That stroke of tactical genius resulted in a trio of Struggle goals, including one from the man of the hour, as Scotty knocked in a beautiful header on his final AMSA appearance.

Ciro did manage to spring off his line like a tiny jungle cat wearing oven mits to stop an onrushing attack, but then Drew the Dragon couldn’t resist scoring on his old nemesis…. especially considering the fact that he would miss them terribly for the next year as they toil in the lower ranks of the Over 30 wastelands.

As the game wound down, everyone tried to get involved to show Scotty a good time. Chappy continued to miss shots (on purpose of course), Gigi gave Anar a love tap on the ankle, Joe from Verity came close with a header on his final CRU appearance, Jefe lovingly screamed at Aubry for an incorrect offside call, Peterson sent it, BT drank beer on the sideline, Danimal roamed the field, Billy and Bret dared a 9 year old to score on them, and everyone else just had a fun afternoon.

Chappy did manage to score with his 47th shot of the game in what would turn out to be the very last kick of the game. A little consolation for the Honey Badgers, but it really didn’t matter as this day was all about Scott, his family and his service with the best damn soccer league in America.

The postgame was a typical Honey Badger celebration honoring the man of the hour. There was a lot of beer, a lot of shots on goal, a few accidents, and most likely a sunset. Fitting, since it was Scotty’s turn to ride off into one.

Having decided that simple ice baths on Ciro were played out, Danimal decided to go ahead and follow it up with a Yeti Piledriver to the dome.

Billy has the final thumbs up verdict on the afternoon.
