After winning Man City the EPL title back in 2011, Sergio Aguero was up to his old tricks with another last minute goal to spoil another Cameron Road’s amazing comeback.

Heartbreak for the Honey Badgers as 20 man Manchester City score a last minute goal to spoil yet another epic comeback. The 3-4 scoreline indicated a close game, but it wasn’t looking that close in the first 30 minutes.

With gold and blue clocks all around Austin apparently stuck on 1:30, Cameron Road struggled to field a full squad at the start of the game. A brave 9 souls took the pitch against a Manchester City squad that had a second full team underneath their tent!

With most of the defense out of town, Cameron Road fielded an unorthodox stopgap back line of Peterson, Chappy, El Jefe and Crosley. Ciro, Stripy and Willis rounded out the understrength midfield and Gigi (powered by “Columbian” tea) had the challenging task of holding the line up front.

From the start, it was clear that Man City was a solid D1 team with a terrifyingly powerful attacking force. Within minutes they were up by a goal. Even after Adam and McKenna joined the fight, the Honey Badgers found themselves down by quick goals within the first 30 minutes.

The stage was set for a shellacking at the hands of the baby blue team from Manchester as they subbed in droves of fresh legs at the Honey Badgers expense.

But dear constant supporter, you already know what happened next, don’t you? With their backs up against the wall, with no subs to call on, and with an embarrassing loss staring them right between their badger eyes – they Honey Badgers flipped the “don’t give a shit” switch and turned the game completely around.

Although Manchester City were potent in attack, their defense was not quite as sharp. When given the opportunity, Cameron Road was able to penetrate into the area and cause them some problems – mainly down the right flank. And such an opportunity presented itself as Ryan darted down the right wing and crossed a low ball to Gigi at the top of the box. Gigi fired the ball into the back of the net and gave CRU a glimmer of hope. 1-3. “Hey, come on guuuyzzz!!”

As the half came to a close, Cameron Road surged with confidence, and dodged a few bullets along the way. The hulking Bosnian Man City forward blasted 3 shots at Jay’s goal after getting free inside the box. Two of them went just wide of the post, and the third struck Chappy right in the old sackaroo. At the other end, Cameron Road had a few chances as Gigi actually wasn’t too far off the mark with a Clark Field bicycle kick, and Adam had a shot lined up in front of goal as well.

Jay made a fantastic fingertip save to close the half out, sending the goal-bound ball gently over the bar.

As the Honey Badgers retreated to their den down 1-3, there was still an uneasy feeling that Man City could jump out and score another 3-4 goals in the second half, but there was also a growing belief that they could get something out of the game.

With the second half underway, the Cameron Road defense started showing signs of life. Crosley was nursing a sore quad on the right, Ryan slotted into the spot on the right, and Chappy and Jefe formed a numpty shield around Jay in the center.

It was looking even tougher for Cameron Road as Adam was still in the infirmary as the half started, but luckily the power of Jefe’s oranges and their magical healing juice allowed him to continue.

Maybe they were content with their lead, but it looked as if Man City’s front line was tiring. They still came into the badger den early and often, but their attacks were being thwarted time after time and the Honey Badgers grew in confidence. Chappy was clearly channeling Danimal through a tree line mind meld, as he headed away dangerous balls with abandon.

At the other end, Gigi went on a solo run and was upended just outside the box. Stepping over the ball to take the 20 yard free kick was Cameron Road’s hottest forward, Steve McKenna. With a Ronaldo-like presence, Steve curled in a free kick around the wall and left the keeper absolutely flat footed as he drew back yet another goal. 2-3 Cameron Road and the comeback was in full swing.

With the heat baring down on them like a molten blanket, the Honey Badgers grew weary but refused to give in. At one point Z had to be medevaced to the green and yellow hospital tent to deal with his “foot problem.” BLISTERS 2 ZORAN ZERO! But to his credit, he was able to get back on the pitch.

With momentum surging, the defense, led by a few fantastic saves by Jay, kept Man City at bay, and the offense was gaining strength. Peterson and Ciro worked the ball down the right, trying to get the ball back into Gigi and Steve. And on a brilliant play, the Honey Badgers caught Man City napping. Ciro took a quick throw in to Gigi down the right side. Gianluca then found Steve at the back post unmarked much to City’s screams for off side. With a simple tap in, Steve leveled the score and set the stage for yet another monumental Cameron Road comeback.

While the offense tried to hold up the ball and get a winner, the defense stood firm and was resolved to see the game out. With time running out though, the Honey Badgers were done in by their own secret weapon – the dreaded last minute corner kick goal. A perfectly placed ball zipped to the back of the net where the Man City player was lurking and his close range header sent them back up a goal 4-3.

Still, with seconds left in the game and players pushing forward, Cameron Road almost had the ball in the back of the net with some bouncy ball inside the Man City 6 yard box.

As the final whistle blew, Cameron Road simply ran out of time to complete another heart-pounding, thrilling comeback. And although the loss stung, it was another proud moment for 11 Honey Badgers who simply refused to quit against some serious odds.

Man-of-the-Match: With a patchwork defense in front of him, Jay took charge of the back line and barked out orders like Patton himself. And without his key amazing saves, the would have been no talk of a comeback.
