LOSS: CRU 1 – ATX 5 – The Spring Season Mercifully Comes to a Close with Another Tough Loss to ATX
After weeks of rainouts, schedule changes, poor results and not coming home with The Trophy, the Soccer Gods chose to put Cameron Road out of their misery early on Sunday morning as they finally played their final match with top dawgs ATX. In an unprecedented move, Cameron Road had 12 players ready to go before 8am.
ATX have been battering teams all season and earned a well-deserved trip to the Premier Division, but the Honey Badgers have been on the end of many frustrating games, injuries and slim sidelines all Spring.
But you wouldn’t have known it for the first 10 minutes of the game as CRU didn’t let AXT into their half. The Honey Badgers were playing well with a 5-man midfield, trying to nab an early goal.
But just like that, with a flick of the ball over the back of the defense to their start forward, ATX was up 1-0 as Danny Boy raced onto the ball, cut right, cut right again, and unleashed a rocket towards the back of the net.
By the end of the game, the frosted tipped striker had struck again, and sunk CRU with a 5-1 drubbing. Derek had the only goal for the good guys from close range.
Not the way Cameron Road wanted to end the season, but there were definitely lots of good moments for the boys in yellow all over the pitch.
It was also the last regular season game for Guillermo, who is moving halfway across the globe for a few years to gain some far-eastern defensive knowledge. Jake read some brief words of encouragement and thanks from Luke, and everyone wished him a fond farewell…. although he should see some summer game action before they skip town.
No worries, with the sub-par 2025-2026 campaign all wrapped up, the Honey Badgers look forward to the usual good vibes of another summer season with da’boys, and planning for a much better start to the Fall Season.
Man-of-the-Match: Yet again CRU was struck by the error-bug which led to several ATX goals, but if it wasn’t for Jawbone’s good saves, it could have been much worse.
