CRU 2 – Struggle FC 3
We could blame this one on the fact that 90% of the team was fighting a hangover from Andy’s bachelor party, or that Hurrican Ike was a bust, but honestly we should have come away with at least a point from this game. Give Struggle some credit, they came out in the first half and had us on the back foot. Again, Cameron Road started off the game a little sluggish and paid the price letting Struggle sneak in from the back door and put in the first goal. As the half wore on we gained a little luck when a corner kick came off Luke’s head and one of their players to go over the keeper for the tying goal. At halftime, the score was all tied up at one a piece.
Having flushed out the majority of alcohol in our systems in the first half, we came out and played much better in the second. Although our counter-attack defense was exposed again when Struggle scored their second goal on the break. After that, we pressed a little harder and Willis tied it up with a nice, patient finish inside the box. Hoping to hold onto a draw, we were a bit unlucky when Struggle scored again with a close range finish. The final insult to our sub-par day came when yours truly was pushed from behind inside the box, but for some reason the ref deemed it worthy of only an indirect free kick. (doesn’t the fact that it was inside the box warrant an automatic penalty kick?). Anyway, after narrowly missing tying the game up with a Chris Vestre flick off the free kick, we couldn’t manage to tie up the game for the third time. Final score, CRU 2 – Struggle 3.
On the bright side, having scored a combined 10 goals in our first 2 games, at least you can’t call us boring to watch.
Man of the Match – I considered not giving a MOTM award if we lost the game, but then decided what the heck, there had to be at least one bright spot from any defeat, right? So this weeks coveted award goes to Andy, simply because he was up for a game only hours removed from getting worked over at paintball and being drunk off his rocker at his bachelor party.
