Cameron Road suffers a double dose of defeat on double header weekend.

With a hard fought 1-0 loss to SAS United in the Heineken Cup on Saturday followed by a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of AFC Barcenal on Sunday, the honey badgers got the equivalent of a can of tuna in their Halloween bag this weekend.

First up was Saturday’s rematch with last week’s opponent, SAS United. Since it was a rare Saturday afternoon game, CRU was lucky to field a full team, but didn’t have the luxury of any subs. A first half rebounded goal gave SAS the lead, but the rest of the game was a close affair with Cameron Road outshining the visitors for most of the second half. With Danimal and The Kraken holding shutting down things in the center defense, Cameron Road pushed forward trying to get the tying goal that would have sent the game to penalty kicks. Unfortunately, the game ended and CRU was knocked out of the competition by their D3 rivals.

With sore legs, and a few subs, Cameron Road tried to bounce back from the close defeat on Saturday against league leaders AFC Barcenal on Sunday. The barren high plains of NEMP provided the perfect Halloween background for the match as the two teams squared off for battle. An early Barcenal goal followed by a scrappy goal from Dermot ended the half all tied up.

Feeling like they could get something out the game, Cameron Road started the second half feeling pretty good, but soon the wheels came off as the long weekend caught up with the toothless honey badgers. Barcenal started to assert their speed down the flanks and pumped in another 3 goals to close out the game and end Cameron Road’s double header of weekend soccer with it’s second straight loss.
